Africa Cup of Nations Results for 2024

The Africa Cup of Nations 2024 is the 34th edition of the tournament hosted by Ivory Coast. In this article, we look at the predictions for the AFCON results for the 2024 tournament.

AFCON Group Results 2024

The AFCON 2024 tournament will be played by 24 teams who will win in the AFCON qualifiers. Ivory Coast, as the host country, has an automatic qualification but will play in the qualifying stage to determine the placing of the other teams in the same group stage.

How the tournament works is that every team that qualifies is placed in 6 groups with 4 teams each. The teams must play three fixtures against the other three and get points depending on the match’s outcome.

A win is 3 points, a draw is 1 point, and a loss is 0 points. At the end of the third match, the points awarded will be counted, and the winner and runner-up in each group will be automatically qualified for the round of 16.

Then 4 the third-placed teams will join the 12 qualified teams. These 4 teams must have the highest point when ranked with the 6 other teams.

AFCON Results for Zambia

The Chipopolo of Zambia has played in 17 AFCON tournaments out of the 33 times it has held. So they have only played half the times the tournament has been held.

In these 17 times, the team has won the AFCON tournament once, come runners-up twice, and come third place 3 times.

The Zambian team took the silver medal in 1974 and 1994. They took the bronze medal in 1982, 1990, and 1996.

In 2012 when the Zambian team won the AFCON finals, they defeated the current hosts, Ivory Coast, in the final game 8-7 on penalties after the match had ended in a goalless draw.

Despite their stellar performance in 2012, the team has not been able to move past the group stage in 2013 and 2015 and has been unable to qualify for the competition in 2017, 2019 and 2021.

However, for the AFCON 2024, the team is on the verge of qualifying for the tournament. They are second in Group H, behind Ivory Coast on 9 points, and the third team is on 3 points.

Barring any extraordinary circumstances, the team will play in AFCON 2024, Ivory Coast, in January 2024.
